The Golden Globes are set to make history by introducing a brand new category dedicated to honoring the top podcasts of the year. Starting with the ceremony on January 11, 2026, the Globes will shine a spotlight on the “extraordinary and diverse talents in podcasting,” according to a statement from the organization.

This move marks the first time the prestigious awards will formally recognize achievements outside of film and television, reflecting the ever-evolving landscape of entertainment and the growing influence of audio storytelling. The decision comes as the popularity of podcasts continues to surge among global audiences.

Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne emphasized the significance of the change: “As the world of entertainment continues to evolve, we are excited to recognize new forms of storytelling. By celebrating achievements in both audio and visual podcasts, we aim to honor our heritage categories while making room for new voices and formats to be heard.”

Only the “top 25 podcasts” will be considered for the new award, with six finalists to be announced as official nominees. Eligible podcasts will include narrative, video, interview, and news-based productions, but further details about criteria are expected in the coming weeks.

The 2026 Golden Globes will once again be hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, who returns after her acclaimed debut earlier this year. Glaser expressed her excitement for another round, joking, “I can’t wait to do it again, and this time in front of the team from ‘The White Lotus’ who will finally recognize my talent and cast me in season four as a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a shadowy past.”
